Price increase template syntax — percentage vs pence (case sensitivity)

Explains the case-sensitive syntax difference between percentage and pence increases in price increase templates, and how to avoid duplicate pricing errors.

Written by Phil Whitehead

When creating price increase templates in Weighsoft, the letter used to define the increase type is case-sensitive. Using the wrong case can cause both a percentage increase and a pence increase to be applied simultaneously, resulting in duplicate or incorrect pricing.

The syntax

When configuring a price increase rule, the suffix character determines how the increase is calculated:

  • Uppercase P — applies a percentage increase (e.g. 5P = 5% increase)

  • Lowercase p — applies a pence/penny increase (e.g. 5p = 5 pence increase)

Important: Using a lowercase 'p' when you intend a percentage increase will apply a pence increase instead. If both a percentage rule and a pence rule exist for the same product, both may fire simultaneously, creating duplicate price lines.

Symptoms of the issue

  • Prices appear to have been increased twice after running a price increase.

  • Two separate price lines are created for the same product after a price increase run.

  • Customers are being charged an unexpected additional amount on top of the expected increase.

How to fix

  1. Go to Administration → Lookups → Price Increases.

  2. Open the affected price increase template.

  3. Review each increase rule and check the suffix character.

  4. Replace any lowercase 'p' with uppercase 'P' where a percentage increase was intended.

  5. Save the template.

  6. Re-run the price increase if needed, or manually correct any duplicate prices that were created.

Removing duplicate prices

If duplicate price lines have already been created, they will need to be removed manually. Contact support if you need assistance identifying and removing duplicate prices created by a case error in a price increase template.
