Managing Tonnage Surcharges for Skip Jobs in Weighsoft

Overview

Tonnage surcharges in Weighsoft are applied to skip jobs based on the weight captured at the Weighbridge. These charges are added to the skip order and are visible in the Outstanding Tickets screen and can be manually edited or updated using lookup settings.


Steps to Set Up Tonnage Pricing

  1. Hover over Administration, then click Lookups.

  2. Click Prices, then select Add Tonnage Price.

  3. Fill in the required details for the tonnage price.

Key Fields to Configure

Product

The skip type the charge applies to.

Tonnage

The cost per tonne.

Tonnage Surcharge Over

The weight threshold at which the surcharge begins.

Waste Type

The type of waste within the skip.

Tip: Enter as much detail as possible to ensure accurate pricing is applied to skip orders

Generic Pricing Behaviour

  • Leaving the Product field blank:
    The tonnage charge will apply to all skip orders, regardless of skip type.

  • Leaving the Waste Type field blank:
    The tonnage charge will apply to all orders for the specified skip type, regardless of waste type.

Result

Once configured, the tonnage price will automatically apply to skip orders that match the criteria set in the lookup.


Adding a Tonnage Charge to a Skip Order in Weighsoft

Where to Find the Tonnage Charge Section

  • Open the relevant Skip Order.

  • Locate the Tonnage Charge section in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Tonnage Charge Fields Explained

Tick this box to activate the tonnage charge for the order.

Charge

The rate per tonne (e.g., enter 20.00 to charge £20 per tonne).

Over Tonnes

The weight threshold before the charge applies (e.g., enter 1 to give the first tonne free).

Min Qty

Minimum quantity to charge (e.g., enter 1 to always charge at least 1 tonne, even if less is collected).

Max Qty

Maximum quantity to charge (e.g., enter 4 to cap the charge at 4 tonnes, even if more is collected).

C Order No

Optional field for a separate customer order number specific to tonnage charges.

Buy/Sell

Set to S for Sell (you charge the customer) or B for Buy (you pay for the tonnage). Defaults to S.

Unit of Sale

Typically set to KG. Determines how the waste is measured.

Note: Once added, the tonnage charge applies to all future tickets on the order. It does not affect tickets already created.

  • Charge: £40 × 1.26 = £50.40

Example 2: Minimum Charge

  • Scenario: 1.26T of waste is collected.

  • Charge: Minimum of 2 tonnes applies → £40 × 2 = £80.00

Reason - although the charge starts at 1T, the minimum charge is set to 2. So from 1.0001 to 1.99999T it will charge £80. After that point it will charge at £40 per tonne.

  • Scenario: 4.3T of waste is collected.

  • Chargeable Tonnage: 4.3 - 1 = 3.3T → capped at 3T

  • Charge: £40 × 3 = £120.00


Adding or Amending a Tonnage Charge on an Existing Skip Job

Steps to Add or Amend a Tonnage Charge

  1. Navigate to Modules > Skip > Outstanding Tickets.

  2. Use the available filters (e.g., Ticket Number) to locate the job.

  3. Once found, right-click on the ticket and select Update Price.

  4. In the Update Price screen, locate the Tonnage Charge section on the left-hand side.

  5. Enter the tonnage charge details using the following fields:

    1. Enable:Tick to activate the charge.

    2. Charge: Price per tonne (e.g., 40.00).

    3. Over Tonnes: Weight threshold before the charge applies.

    4. Min Qty: Minimum quantity to charge.

    5. Max Qty: Maximum quantity to charge.

    6. C Order No: Optional customer order number for tonnage charges.

    7. Buy/Sell: Set to S for Sell (default) or B for Buy.

    8. Unit of Sale: Typically set to KG.

  6. Once the details are entered, click Update Price (Tonnage Price Lookup).

    • This will prompt the system to search for a matching tonnage price based on the skip size and waste type on the job.


Removing tonnage charges from an existing active skip job

  1. Navigate to Modules > Skip > Outstanding Tickets.

  2. Use the filters (e.g., Ticket Number) to locate the job.

  3. Right-click on the job and select Update Price.

  4. In the Tonnage Charge section on the left:

    • Set the Tonnage Charge value to 0.

  5. Click Update Total on the left.

  6. Click Update Price at the bottom-right of the screen.
