In October 2026, the UK Government will start rolling out mandatory digital waste tracking legislation, marking a major shift in how waste management businesses operate and track waste movements.
Weighsoft Compliance
The Access Weighsoft team took part in the recent user research and initial consultation with the Government’s Digital Waste Tracking service and are now involved in the beta phase - the functionality is being built into Weighsoft and is going through testing.

Getting your Weighsoft system Digital Waste-ready
While the system is going through testing, there are steps you can take now to get your Weighsoft system ready and make implementation as easy as possible once it is available.
Getting DEFRA credentials
In order to submit data electronically you will need a Digital ID which you must obtain from DEFRA. Access are unable to do this on your behalf.
You can register for your Digital Id via the link below:
Qualtrics Survey | Qualtrics Experience Management
You will be given a "Company Id" which will need to be entered into Weighsoft. Make sure to keep a record of this number.
Weighsoft Version
In order to make use of Digital Waste Tracking you will need to be running the below versions of Weighsoft and the driver app:
Weighsoft version 5.542
Android App version 9.26
Note: You can check your current version of Weighsoft by going to Administration>About
Upgrading Weighsoft
Manual process - contact the support team via the Digital Assistant and advise that you require an upgrade of your Weighsoft system.
Automatic Upgrades (available to hosted customers only) - while DWT is being rolled out we are offering enrollment to an out of hours program which will deploy a full upgrade to your Weighsoft system on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7pm, ensuring that your system is always up to date. If you are interested in this please reach out to your Account Manager.
Important: In order to be eligible for the automatic upgrade program you must be running at least 5.531 and be an Access-Hosted customer. If you are not running this version please reach out to the Support Team as per the "manual Process" above.

Note: Upgrading Weighsoft will not automatically upgrade your drivers handhelds. You will need to contact Support separately for that to be carried out.
Implementation
Once Digital Waste Tracking is fully integrated into Weighsoft there will be some setup and implementation required.
Once we are at this stage further communications will be sent out and you will need to contact your account manager to arrange the work to be carried out.
