Invoice email template save error — sanitisation check after upgrade

Explains why invoice email templates may fail to save after a Weighsoft upgrade due to HTML sanitisation restrictions, and how to resolve the error.

Written by Phil Whitehead

After a Weighsoft upgrade, you may find that saving changes to an invoice email template fails with an error message similar to: 'Save failed — sanitisation check failed on Invoice Email Content.' This is caused by HTML restrictions introduced in newer versions of Weighsoft.

Why this happens

Newer versions of Weighsoft restrict certain HTML tags and formatting within email templates for security reasons. If your template contains HTML elements that are no longer permitted, Weighsoft will block the save and display a sanitisation error.

Common causes include HTML formatting applied through a rich text editor (such as styled text, custom fonts, or inline CSS), or legacy HTML tags that were permitted in older versions but are now restricted.

How to resolve

  1. Open the invoice email template in Administration → Lookups → Invoice Email Templates.

  2. Clear your browser's local storage: click the Home icon, then your username, then Clear Local Storage → All, and refresh the page (Ctrl+F5 on Windows, Command+Shift+R on Mac).

  3. Open the template again and review the content for any rich text formatting, custom fonts, or unusual HTML.

  4. Remove or simplify any suspect formatting — plain text content and standard line breaks are safe.

  5. Try saving again.

  6. If the error persists, contact support and provide a copy of the template content so the specific restricted element can be identified.

What content is restricted

The sanitisation check blocks specific HTML tags that are no longer supported in newer Weighsoft versions. The exact list of restricted tags varies by version. If you are unsure whether specific formatting is permitted, simplify the template to plain text first to confirm it saves, then reintroduce formatting incrementally.

Note: This issue most commonly appears after upgrading to a new major version of Weighsoft. If you have recently upgraded and multiple templates are affected, contact support for a bulk review.
