Need to make a PO number mandatory? If your goal is to prevent a collection being raised without a PO number, use the Order Ref Required setting on the address (Address → Modify → tick "Order Ref Required") rather than an Ext Ref field. Ext Ref fields are plain text fields for recording extra information — they cannot enforce entry before an order is saved. See Making Order Reference Mandatory Before Raising a Skip Collection for the full steps.
Overview
The "Ext Ref" fields on skip orders are customizable plain text fields that can be used to record any additional information relevant to the job (e.g., skip colour, site reference, internal notes). This article explains how to rename these fields to suit your business needs.
Steps to Rename an "Ext Ref" Field
Hover over Administration.
Click on Settings.
Select the Skips & RoRo tab.
Scroll down to the Other section.
Locate the setting labeled Ext Ref 1 Name (or Ext Ref 2, etc.).
Replace the default name with your desired label (e.g., Skip Colour).
Click Save at the top of the screen.
Important Notes
The new label will appear on all current and future skip orders.
These fields are plain text only — they cannot:
Display dropdown lists.
Automatically pull data from other parts of the system.
The field name is universal across all orders and accounts.
You cannot set different names for different customers or job types.
Changing the name in Settings will update the label on every skip order in the system.
