Setup Ultra Low Emissions Zones (ULEZ)

How to I setup Ultra Low Emission Zones and stop a vehicle from being scheduled in an Ultra Low Emission Zone?

Written by Noel

Overview

The ultra-low emission zone is an area within London that is restricted to vehicles with low emissions (EURO 4 engine for petrol and EURO6 for diesel). From a Weighsoft perspective, we need to show which vehicles can and cannot enter the zone and indicate when a job cannot be assigned to a vehicle.

The functionality to handle this was introduced in version 5.409 for the Skip, Material, RMC and Hazardous Modules.

ULEZ zones are being proposed for Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham, Derby and Southampton under the title Clean Air Zones (CAZ).

Setup

The setup for ULEZ is straightforward, if somewhat data entry heavy. A new lookup ULEZ Postcodes has been added to the application where every applicable postcode must be loaded in; partials are not accepted. You can access this page by going to:

  1. Hover over Administration

  2. Click on Lookups

  3. Click on ULEZ Postcodes

Note: In order for the on-screen warnings to appear FULL postcodes must be entered into this screen.

For example creating an entry for "DE21" will not generate on-screen warnings, but "DE21 2FG" will

Vehicle

Against the vehicle inside Weighsoft is a new flag called Not Permitted In ULEZ. You can enable this flag against specific vehicles by going to:

  1. Hover over Administration

  2. Click on Lookups

  3. Click on Vehicles

  4. Select the required vehicle and click on Edit

  5. Enable the "Not Permitted in ULEZ" option in the bottom-left corner

When viewed in the Operations screen a vehicle not allowed in a ULEZ will display the below icon.

Operation

Once the postcodes and vehicles have been configured, vehicles that are not permitted in the ULEZ will have an exclamation mark in a red circle next to them.

When scheduling a job to a non-ULEZ vehicle to a ULEZ postcode, an on-screen prompt will be given advising that the vehicle cannot be scheduled to the job as it is in the ULEZ.
